Styling Denim on Denim

We made it to Friday! As you may or may not know, the weather in LA is very unpredictable. Nice and sunny a few days. Then, it's too hot for January, but not complaining. Then, it's cold and rainy for a week or a day. So during those weird stretches of what feels like Spring, I've been taking advantage of reaching for old favorites. Denim and chambray will always fill my closet and lifestyle. But I need to throw in I've been getting so much inspiration and perspective from some girls on Instagram doing that 10x10 challenge. While I haven't gone shopping much, I know with Spring ahead I will want to. Their insight has given me enough to pause and think before I go crazy shopping. One think I know I get my moneys worth when I buy denim pieces. Is there a piece/style that you buy season after season because of this?

Let's flashback to last year's look here. One thing I do for fun or because I'm cold is layering. This time, it's because I'm cold. Using a button down for extra warmth is still a styling trick I love. I'm just not sure if I love it because it has that cool girl vibe or more for being warm?

Styling a Denim Skirt

top (similar) // skirt (on sale!) // espadrilles (go up 1/2 size) // purse // sunglasses

I'll be the first to admit that my style is based on ease and comfort. And I might be guilty of wearing jeans like it's my second skin. But figured I could step out of my usual jean pants into it's sister, the jean skirt. Guess what? It was the highlight of my outfits that week. I felt like people in the office just saw my legs for the first time because there were a heap of compliments. It's one of those pieces that has enough details and simplicity at the same time. While I decided to rewear it for the weekend with stripes (you can never go wrong with stripes, right?). For the office, I actually went more minimal and wore a simple white tee and this long cardi. In the fall, I know I'll just add some tall boots.

Anyway, it's time to flashback to last year's look here. Funny enough, it's about denim! Clearly, we can agree denim will always be a closet staple.

Little Denim Dress

Not to say I don't like short weeks, but this whole week feels like a blur. Holidays shouldn't be allowed to fall on a Tuesday, riiight? How was your 4th? Our 4th was really low-key. We had zero plans and I always find those can be some of the best days. If you can't tell, I'm not that person who likes to buy something just to wear on that one day. Truthfully, I thought I would end up wearing stripes. But found some time to dig through my closet and realized I have so many denim dresses from last year that I've forgotten about. It's also stopping me from buying more denim dresses (like this one!) and start rewearing my clothes. Do you ever feel like your old clothes never see the light of day?

Anyway, let's take a look at last year's look here. It pretty hilarious that it's featuring denim. Maybe it's the LA girl in me, can't live without it! And this just made me remember I have this top. Another piece I need to wear asap.

Thanks for all your lovely posts from last week! You guys have some of the best outfits! Our picks are Tif from Bright on a Budget and Nicole from What Nicole Wore! And just FYI this might be the last linkup for the month, but all depends on if Jessica's little bundle decides to show up in the next week. How fast has her pregnancy gone?! Okay, we should probably ask her.

Double Denim

top (go up a size if you have curvy hips) // jeans // espadrilles (go up 1/2 size) // sunglasses

So today was my birthday, but you're probably reading this the day after. And if you remember from this post, it was bringing some emotions. But I definitely have moved to a better place about it. Your comments were a big help and my girlfriends who just turned 3-0 made me laugh about it. We spent the day in Santa Barbara, which seems to be a running joke because we always tend to go there. I tried so hard to not go their this year, but life had other ideas. I guess it is where I belong. I am always happiest by the ocean.  Well seeing that I can't offer you birthday cake, I thought I'd share 30 things about me:
  • I'm LA born and raised, which is unheard of
  • Over the past year, I've become matcha latte snob
  • I've never stepped inside a gym to actually workout
  • I'm scared out of my whits of snakes. I almost backed out of trip to Costa Rica because of that
  • You're looking at a vegetarian of 10 years. But technically I'm pescatarian. I eat some seafood on occasions
  • By day, I work for a parenting website where I have learned waaayyy too much about pregnancy, birth and motherhood
  • If calories didn't count, I would eat pizza and ice cream daily
  • Wine trumps beer
  • Italy will forever been a place I fell in love with before I went
  • Growing up I always wanted a cat, but was allergic
  • Up until the last 6 months, I've always had a pet
  • I'm more of morning person, except I'm slowing becoming a person who hits the snooze button (I blame the boyfriend on that)
  • People have a hard time figuring out what ethnicity I am and I enjoy that
  • And I'm 4th generation Mexican
  • My Spanish is on par with a five year-old
  • My boyfriend and I did long distance for THREE AND A HALF YEARS
  • I'm usually one of the most unflexible people at yoga
  • Yoga is the only form of exercise that I've stuck to
  • I'd rather go barefooted as much as possible (maybe that's why I like yoga)
  • My best friend and I have known each other since we were five
  • My tastebuds are not a fan of coffee, but my nose is
  • Oddly, I sometimes can drive without music
  • My dream is to move near the beach someplace that I don't have to deal much traffic
  • While I've always loved fashion, my style has taken a shift over the past year. Is this me getting old?
  • For college, I majored in Fashion Marketing (totally fitting right?)
  • I never understood all the fuss about Madewell, but now I have a full-blown addiction
  • I feel like my least self when I wear red lipstick
  • Parallel parking is not my talent
  • The only traffic violation I've had was a fix it ticket
  • I have this weird love for NYC even though I crave peace and calm
And a big applause if you read through all 30 things! If there's something you'd love to know, ask away.

P.S there is a giveaway going on! I'd love for you to get to know this cute shop and win some shopping money!

Little Denim Dress + Linkup

dress // espadrilles // purse (new fall colors too) //aviators

Happy Friday! So glad it's the weekend. Not sure if it's me, but the week after a long weekend always seems like it's twice as long. It's okay. I've got some dinner plans here that I'm looking forward to. Now, on to this dress that I wore for date night. I'm no stranger to a good denim dress (see here and here), but there was just something about this one that wouldn't let me stop thinking about it. Yes, I'm obsessive like that. So glad I pulled the trigger. It's simple, but sure gets compliments for days.

Now, it's time for our Flashback Friday look here. This trench is great even a year later. One of the reasons I love it is because it can work on it's own or as a lightweight jacket. Definitely love versatility these days!

Thank you for linking up with us! If this is your first time here, we hope you'll join the linkup. This week our favorite looks were ChiChi from The Style Tune and Kim from Champagnista

12 Denim Dresses Under $100

The more we go into Summer, the simpler I want my outfits to be. I've already confessed my love for denim here. But a good denim dress goes a long way during Summer. Perfect for any vacations! It's easy and looks effortless even if you are melting in the heat. I can't help but keep adding more and more to my closet. There's so many styles to pick from and I love the different shapes. I've rounded up 12 of my favorite all under $100 and LOVE this one (under $45 guys)!

Denim Girl + Linkup

top (sold out, almost identical) // skinny jeans // sandals (old, similar) // purse (obsessed!) // neck scarf

Denim. What can I say? Only that you are my BFF these days. Oh and you too off-the-shoulder! Can't forget you! I got this top (actually it's a dress that feels too short) several weeks back and it's been gloomy whenever I want to wear it. But it wasn't this past weekend. Thank you weather gods for making this outfit possible! And you guys I just can't stop wanting more denim pieces in my closet. I'm on the cusp of ordering this dress now that it's on sale. Yay or nay ladies?

Now let's flashback to last year's look here. Annnd funny enough I'm wearing the same jeans. I'm surprised by how well Old Navy jeans have lasted! But this top is one that's perfect for Summer and is from Ruche, which if you haven't heard has just reopened! It started by a woman just following her dream and glad to see she was able to reopen it!
Thanks for linking up with Jessica and I! Remember to linkup because it's better with you and we are featuring our two favorites each week! Yesss, you can be featured! We loved Kim from The Knotted Chain and Candace from The Beauty Beau!
