My Go-To Weekend Outfit

black jacekt, white tee, skinny jeans

casual womens outfit

cute black jacket

vegan leather jacket

cute white tshirt

Jacket // Top (size xs) // Jeans // Mules // Sunglasses // Purse (similar under $30)

Okay, that title is a lie. There's a good chance this basic look or outfit formula--moto jacket, cute tee, ripped jeans and flats-- is happening close to everyday of the week. That's basically what LA will do to your style. Although I was born here, so is it just in my DNA? Regardless of where you live, I do think every woman needs a good moto jacket. It's like a super hero cape that's acceptable to wear as a grown up. While we were snapping these pictures, my boyfriend (happened to talk him into being my photographer for 5 minutes) noticed how much sass I had with this jacket. If you know me, I'm definitely the easy going gal. But with this jacket I stood a little taller and had that boost of confidence. Do you have a jacket or piece of clothing that just makes you feel extra?

Now, let's flashback to last year's look here. And what do you know, it's a very similar outfit formula. That moto jacket still is one of my most worn pieces to date! I think that proves my point about having moto jackets in your wardrobe.

Styling Gingham for Fall

jacket (size xs) // dress (size 0) // booties

You may have remember seeing this dress before and that's because it was in this post here. When I fell for this dress, I knew we were on the cusp of entering Fall (maybe too hopeful for LA), so I gave myself a challenge. I needed to come up with several ways to style this if I am going to keep it. My closet gets filled too easily with one hit wonders and I'm waiting for the day that the boyfriend realizes when my stuff starts making it to his side of the closet. While the temperatures might not be cool enough outside for moto jackets, pairing this moto jacket and booties instantly updates this dress. And when it's really chilly, putting on some tights and a chunky scarf will make this dress work.

Thank you for all of you linking up! It really makes us so happy to look at your posts for inspiration!
Our picks are Lydia from Chic on the Cheap and Paulina from SHENSKA!

Now & Later: Madewell Dress (Part 2)

cardigan // dress (as a top) // jeans // booties // hat // sunglasses

When I shop, I think of ALL the ways I can wear something. It's something that I've learned the hard way. My mind goes back to the time I thought white leggings were a good idea. Anyway, this is what I like to call smart shopping and applied it to the Nordstrom Anniversary sale. All my shopping was done in one trip in under an hour and right before work. Yes, I need a time limit or else. This is the second part to the #nsale (see the first post here). But you'll see that it created a mini capsule wardrobe that worked with each other and you can bet these pieces fit my current closet. We're basically a day away from the sale opening to the public, but all I can say is have a game plan.

Here's what worked for me:
1. Know what you actually need in your closet
2. Take inventory of the items you wore to death last fall (maybe it's in actual shreds and should be replaced)
3. Have a budget. Yes, really.
4. Take what you listed in 1, 2, and 3 shopping.
5. Give yourself a time limit shopping.

Dark Floral Dress

moto jacket // dress (similar) // booties // purse

Let's just say I've been waking up every day this week thinking it's one day ahead, so to say I was disappointed a lot this week would be an understatement. But you know what cures disappointment? A sale! Not just any sale, but one of the biggest sales at Madewell. I really should just give them my paycheck at this point. If you saw on Instagram, I was trying on the spring arrivals last weekend. They are just as good or even better in person. Anyway, the sale. It's up to 30% off with code 'NOTKIDDING' (gosh! I love their humor).  I'm breaking this down for you because there's so many great things.
Own and love:

New and might be on the way:

These are already on sale (extra savings):

Thanks for linking up with us! Our picks are Kacie from Elements of Ellis and Joi from In My Joi!

Dark Shades + Linkup

jacket // top c/o garnet hill // jeans // booties (on sale; go up 1/2 size) // hat // purse

FRIDAY!!! I seriously could hug today. Why? Because I survived a very hungry week of doing a juice cleanse. And now I'm just thinking what should I eat first. Should I make up for national pizza day yesterday? Should I go get a whole bunch of my favorite donuts? Or should I be responsible by keeping things healthy? By the way, this juice cleanse had mini meals. Otherwise, I know I couldn't commit. Anyone else done a juice cleanse?

Okay, for the sake of flashback friday, I will talk about clothes. This was my look last year and was when I found out I would be starting a new job (my current job). But even if I wore this now, you wouldn't know. Basics all together just never go out of style!

Thank you for linking us with us! We always have a hard time picking who to spotlight, but this week it's Bogi from Hampton Roads Fashion and Style and Lee from LegaLee Blonde

Reworking The Basics + Linkup

Jacket (size small) // top // jeans (similar) // booties (similar-UNDER $40) // hat // purse

It's probably taken all my life to finally understand how good neutrals are. But I get it. FINALLY. You end up with so many more outfits because everything goes together AND you want them in your closet a lot longer than that neon floral printed dress (was that just me?). And you want to know what's better? My flashback look is styling those exact jeans. Don't get me wrong, I still love a good print every now and then. But I know the majority of my closet will be neutrals. While I probably need to retire these booties, I do think this pair would be a great replacement for under $36. Plus, I have them in black.

Now, here's how I styled these white pants last year. There's nothing like an almost all white outfit!

Thank you for linking up with Jessica and I last week! Talk about so many great outfits! This week our picks are Karen from Lady in Violet and Chelsea from Chow Down USA

Holiday Red + Linkup

If you've been reading sometime, you might know that you rarely see color in my outfits. And that couldn't be more true when it comes to any shade of red. Don't get me wrong--red is a really pretty color and well synonymous with the holidays. I just happen not to feel myself in it. I'm sure you have a color that you love on others but can't seem to make it work. But I've learned not to give up on those colors. It's about finding a shade that compliments your skin (for me that's deeper reds). Then, it's about the style. I'm a huge fan of lace! When I saw this top, I went for it. It was a happy medium of my style and still going out of my comfort zone. Naturally, styling this crimson top with my neutrals was a no-brainer.

Now, let's flashback to last year's outfit here. I still can't over those pretty leaves. But anyway, all these pieces are still in my closet. This look came together after I decided to book a 24 hour trip to San Francisco. If there's ever a time to rely on basics, it's when you have to pack lightly.

Thanks so much for linking up with us today and all year! It's hard to believe that this will be the last one this year, but we'll be back in 2017. We loved Karen from Lady in Violet and Rachael from Threads for Thomas looks!
