Embroidered Jean Jacket

jacket c/o // dress (just $25!) // espadrilles // purse // hat // sunglasses

The calendar might say September, but it sure doesn't feel like it here! LA is having a major heat wave (upwards of 100 degrees) and that was before these pictures were taken. Truth be told, I caught myself wanting to complain about it. But with everything going on in Houston, this heatwave is not that bad. Sure, it's uncomfortable. Sure, I'm sweaty and sticky. It's not pretty, but my life and home is intact. I can go on with my day-to-day schedule something easily taken for granted. Even though it's blazing outside, I still can dream about wearing this adorable jacket in the coming months rather than worrying about rebuilding my home. It's certainly changed my perspective.

Okay, and on to regular programing with last year's look. There's nothing like a good neutral look with a pop of color! Those flats need to be brought back out asap!

Thanks so much for linking up! There always is so much inspiration with your posts!

The Cold Shoulder

top (on sale; size up for length) // jeans // shoes // purse // hat // sunglasses

Happy Friday! Has anyone else felt like it should have been Friday by Wednesday? Yeah, me too! But I matcha, getting a couple of orders in the mail and working 2 days from home got me threw the week. You guys, I have to say I have a full blown obsession (maybe addiction. maybe) to Madewell! I stock their site like a crazy teenage girl crushing on her favorite boy band. I have a strategy and I've managed to get a good chunk of my clothes on sale from them. Seriously, their sales are not to walk away from. This top was a recent sale find and great for transitioning into Fall. It has the colors of Fall, but won't have you roasting because it's still 90 degrees outside. It's pretty much fully stocked in all sizes and under $40 for silk. There's even a dress version here and here

Now, let's flashback to last year's look here. Surprise! It's featuring my favorite store, again :) But I can say that I just wore this outfit this week. This top is heavy on the rotation this summer.

Thank you to everyone who links up with us! Let's just say Jessica and I are feeling ruffles. Our picks are Kristina from Kristina Does the Internets and Stefani from The Style Safari!

Ruffle Gingham Dress

dress (ON SALE $35!) // sandals // purse // sunglasses

There's not much that puts a smile on my face on a Monday, but a good dress does. You may remember this dress from my fitting room try-on's. Truth be told, up until this dress, I would have said I'm not a gingham print girl. I love the print on other people, but just never felt very me when I would try a piece on. But leave it to my favorite store to finally convert me! And you guys, today's the last day for Madewell's Insider Sale-15% off everything! It's a win-win whether you go for all the new fall items or all the sale items marked down. You just need to sign up on their site and it's free. I scooped up this tee (I have it in two colors already) and this. But here are the pieces that I'm obsessed with:

And these are on sale that are steals, which I own:

Transitioning Into Fall

top c/o Old Navy // jeans // flats c/o Old Navy // purse // hat // sunglasses

Is anyone else looking at the calendar wondering how we are in the middle of August? Raises hand! There's a part of me that feels a bit sad that summer is wrapping up. That the kids (not my kids) are going back to school meaning more traffic on the roads. Those longer evenings won't be here much longer. But then there's that other part that see's those booties and warm layers sound good. Because it would be nice to not have to be sweaty for once. It's that weird middle ground. Dressing for it can also be a little off. You might have started to stock up on those fall pieces and quite frankly would like to wear them not just look at them. Transitioning really is about finding the right pieces. Picking items in darker colors and prints is a happy medium. That can be with clothes or accessories. I've brought out this wool hat that I loved last fall and mixed it in with this floral top for now. It creates texture without physically melting.

Now, let's flashback to last year's look here. These are pieces I still own and wear. And this kinda makes me want to cute my hair this short...

Thanks for linking up with us! You all have some amazing style! Our picks are Jennie from A Pocketful of Polka Dots and Christine from Bon Chic Style!

Casual Weekend Stripes

top c/o tobi // jeans (my favorite high waisted pair!) // espadrilles (go half size up) // purse // hat // rings

The thing about my style over the years has become rather casual. Maybe it's my go with the flow attitude. Maybe it's just the LA vibes. But it comes down to knowing what I feel best in and repeating that formula over and over. So you can say I've grown my collection of stripe tops and jeans this summer. While it might seem redundant to keep buying stripes, I know that those are the pieces that will get worn. It's about finding different variations that keep it interesting, even if you're actually just wearing a stripe top+jeans+espadrilles practically everyday. Needless to say, the second I saw this stripe cold-shoulder number from Tobi, it was a must! It made for the perfect top to throw on right because of course my other half gave me a time limit to get ready this weekend. So maybe that's really why I have an outfit formula...jk!

Do you have an outfit formula that you constantly go back to?

How To Wear Statement Ruffles

top c/o Banana Republic // jeans // shoes // purse (similar) // sunglasses

I'm not one to shy away from stripes. And when I find a "new" version I'm right there to give it a test. So with the whole ruffle trend taking storm, I couldn't resist this top with stripes and the dramatic ruffles. There's no question the ruffles are meant to standout, which gives it some playfulness. The key is balance that out. Naturally, I gravitated to all my basics. Simple jeans and accessories downplay all the fun from the top, making it just right. This honestly would be a fancy outfit for my office, but for some of you this might work for your casual Friday or weekend brunch. Either way, statement ruffles add so much to a look and can work for an office or weekend.

Thanks so much to everyone who linked up with us! We're so excited to have the linkup back! Our picks this week are Karen from Lady in Violet and Lydia from Chic on the Cheap! We're loving their chic white!

Not So Simple Black Top

black tee (worn backwards) // jeans // shoes (similar)  // purse (similar) // sunglasses

Half the time, there's a good chance you can find me in neutrals and a t-shirt. Lucky for me, my office is casual, so my work to weekend pieces do not very much. I wouldn't be surprised if people think I wear the same thing just in different variations-tee and jeans. But in my defense I've become quite the expert at finding t-shirts with fun details. This black tee is just the latest and I preferred it worn backwards.  And if you saw my last Instagram post, you know I've been t-shirt shopping. Here are a few more I've bought:

Easy Weekend Outfit

top (on sale) // jeans // sandals c/o Banana Republic

Yay it's Friday! This week has flew for me. How about you? But let's talk about this top for a sec, k? It's one of those easy to wear and looks like you put some effort that day. It's also a top that I stalked until it went on sale. I'm a very good stalker I tell ya. It's silk, guys. It's also 50% off, which is a great price for a quality piece. Before the summer ends, I'm already planning on wearing it with white jeans and cutoff shorts. It did make for a great top to hit up The Broad, a local LA museum. More importantly, it was great for stuffing my face with all the yummy food Downtown has to offer.

And I'm also excited because Jessica and I are bring back the linkup! In case you didn't know, but Jessica had her baby boy last month.
