What's Ahead

sweater // jeans // booties // hat // purse

So I've been going back and forward with what to share and what exactly I want to keep blogging about. Truthfully, I'm not one to pour my heart out about the down right hard things in life. I mean you guys come here for fashion and to escape everyday life, right? But let me start by saying that 2016 shook me to my very core and still is effecting me now (even though I'd like to say it's not). It's changed me and my perspective. It's changed what I want to post about. So I feel like I have to start sharing right now about why you'll see some new types of posts.

The C word-otherwise know as cancer. Even now, this is hard to type. In May, my sister gave me the bone chilling news she was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 42. My heart sank. My world felt like it turned upside down. In the midst of dealing with my sister, two months later, we get the news my mom has early signs of breast cancer. WHAT!!! This doesn't make any sense. This isn't suppose to happen. And why? But silence. There are no answers. And then you start to wonder about yourself-your health. All three of us.

Lots of changes have been made. Let's just say we all went down a rabbit hole of learning and searching. I felt like I had to do something to prevent this. Maybe it's someway to feel in control of something that takes it all away. In no ways am I trying to preach, but it down to food and home and beauty products. Understanding the food that goes in our bodies and the products we choose to use. And that's where you'll see some changes here.

Get ready for clean beauty posts! Over the past year, I've worked on switching my beauty products and it's not always pretty. It was hard. You don't know where to start. Where do you shop? Is Sephora okay? Is the makeup I've been wearing for the last decade safe? I'm no way an expert, but don't want you to be that girl standing at Whole Foods building up a sweat over finding a new deodorant. Yup! Been there, done that! And worse, actually spending $10 on a deodorant that leaves you embarrassingly stinky. Yeah, that happened, too. So you know, I'll share the good, the bad and the smelly with you.

P.s The linkup is BACK!

  1. Sorry to hear about your mom and sister- that's rough! My boyfriend's father lost his battle with the c-word this past year and it's been tough. Looking forward to your upcoming posts-- I've been a lot more conscious about the products I use and the foods I eat as well. Much support to you!

  4. I'm so sorry to hear about your sister and mom- sending good vibes that they'll be okay! And thinking of you, lady- I totally understand how that shook you to the core.

I can't wait to see how you turn this into a positive and teach us what you've learned re: organic beauty. I think it's something we're only now realizing- that the stuff we use topically has a real impact long-term internally.

  6. So sorry to hear this. I think a huge part of this is what we eat, there are way too many genetically modified foods out there. But I also think mammograms are finding breast lumps earlier and earlier and that's one reason why so many women are being diagnosed who weren't before. On another topic, I love your outfit. That sweater is amazing.

  7. Wow, those are some difficult waters to navigate, and I can't imagine what your family must be going through right now. But you should never feel like you need to edit yourself, at the end of the day, you write this blog for you first, and you should be able to say whatever you need to say.
Here is hoping for a great 2017.

  10. Oh wow Ardi, I cannot imagine having not only your sister but your mom too both diagnosed in the same year. I am so sorry. How are they both doing? I can imagine that it would lead to changes. My aunt had breast cancer at a very young age. It is always something I have been concerned about. I look forward to you sharing what you've learned.

  12. Thanks for sharing, Adri. I'm so sorry to hear you've had a tough year and that news about your mom and sister is just awful. 2016 was a particularly tough year for me and I've heard others that feel the same way, so you are not alone! Life is just plain hard sometimes. You and your family are in my thoughts & prayers.

I've been on that same journey with food. Just reading about all of the GMO's and crap they put into our food to make more money makes me sick. I'm in the very early stages of considering a vegan diet mostly for health reasons. If you're thinking about going that route, check out Deliciously Ella's blog! I haven't made any of her recipes yet but it looks like a pretty great blog: https://deliciouslyella.com/category/recipes
