When You're in a Funk

It's was one of those weeks, guys. You know the kind where it's one hiccup after the other. The kind that well, you know your are fine in this moment (when you step back from it all), but things are not happening like you imagined or planned. It's hard to catch your breath because you just caught it two seconds ago. I know, it's not really peppy Friday talk. But I couldn't sit here and chat about my outfit. That didn't seem real. Plus that brings up a discussion I had earlier in the Instagram pod (yes, I do that) I'm in about sharing more than just surface stuff. So how much does one share of their life on the internet? Life is more than shopping, cute outfits, and all the rosy things. While I can't get into the nitty gritty of this week, I can tell you the things that have helped me when I'm in a funk:

1. Talk it out with you're biggest cheerleader in your life. Seriously, you'll feel tons better.

2. Grab a book! For me, it's a self-help book. It's always the best way to realize how amazing you are. My current read is the Judgement Detox, which I'm close to finishing and savoring. Another one, I love is this for an honest kick in the pants.

3. Treat yo self girl! Depending on your situation, that could be getting a massage or grabbing a fancy latte. For me, it's reaching for a glass of wine and putting on that special occasion face product.

4. Journal it out! Whenever it seems things are not headed the right way, writing down what I actually want flips a switch and puts all your focus on what you want.

5. Get up (or out) and move! It seems to be the perfect time to want to do nothing, but going on a walk or your favorite workout class will get you out of your head.

6. Do something nice for someone else. While you might not be in control of what's going on, but you can deliberately put some good energy out with a good deed. Speaking of good deeds, make sure to check my Instagram later for a giveaway!

What's the one thing you do when things get you down?

Anyway, it's still our weekly linkup! Thank you for linking up with last week! Our pics are Lee from Legallee Blonde  and Cheryl from Cheryl Shops!

Embroidered Jean Jacket

jacket c/o // dress (just $25!) // espadrilles // purse // hat // sunglasses

The calendar might say September, but it sure doesn't feel like it here! LA is having a major heat wave (upwards of 100 degrees) and that was before these pictures were taken. Truth be told, I caught myself wanting to complain about it. But with everything going on in Houston, this heatwave is not that bad. Sure, it's uncomfortable. Sure, I'm sweaty and sticky. It's not pretty, but my life and home is intact. I can go on with my day-to-day schedule something easily taken for granted. Even though it's blazing outside, I still can dream about wearing this adorable jacket in the coming months rather than worrying about rebuilding my home. It's certainly changed my perspective.

Okay, and on to regular programing with last year's look. There's nothing like a good neutral look with a pop of color! Those flats need to be brought back out asap!

Thanks so much for linking up! There always is so much inspiration with your posts!

Casual Weekend Stripes

top c/o tobi // jeans (my favorite high waisted pair!) // espadrilles (go half size up) // purse // hat // rings

The thing about my style over the years has become rather casual. Maybe it's my go with the flow attitude. Maybe it's just the LA vibes. But it comes down to knowing what I feel best in and repeating that formula over and over. So you can say I've grown my collection of stripe tops and jeans this summer. While it might seem redundant to keep buying stripes, I know that those are the pieces that will get worn. It's about finding different variations that keep it interesting, even if you're actually just wearing a stripe top+jeans+espadrilles practically everyday. Needless to say, the second I saw this stripe cold-shoulder number from Tobi, it was a must! It made for the perfect top to throw on right because of course my other half gave me a time limit to get ready this weekend. So maybe that's really why I have an outfit formula...jk!

Do you have an outfit formula that you constantly go back to?

How To Wear Statement Ruffles

top c/o Banana Republic // jeans // shoes // purse (similar) // sunglasses

I'm not one to shy away from stripes. And when I find a "new" version I'm right there to give it a test. So with the whole ruffle trend taking storm, I couldn't resist this top with stripes and the dramatic ruffles. There's no question the ruffles are meant to standout, which gives it some playfulness. The key is balance that out. Naturally, I gravitated to all my basics. Simple jeans and accessories downplay all the fun from the top, making it just right. This honestly would be a fancy outfit for my office, but for some of you this might work for your casual Friday or weekend brunch. Either way, statement ruffles add so much to a look and can work for an office or weekend.

Thanks so much to everyone who linked up with us! We're so excited to have the linkup back! Our picks this week are Karen from Lady in Violet and Lydia from Chic on the Cheap! We're loving their chic white!

Summer Wardrobe Update

top (similar option) // skirt c/o // espadrilles // bag // sunglasses

Hey everyone! How's your week going? Is it me or are we at that time of the year where we realize time is going too fast, yet were in the mental slow fog of summer? Part of me wants time to slow down to fully enjoy these long warm months and maybe just be able to sit pool-side with a nice margarita. You know a nice long siesta. Then, that other part where I just want cool weather and snuggle up in a cozy sweater. Because I've officially don't know how many more times I can wear my cutoff shorts. And that's the thing finding clothes you feel excited about when you're melting is not an easy task right now. Retailers are filled with all the cute fall stuff. So when I came across this stripe skirt (and I'm not a skirt person) I just knew it would add some spark to my summer wardrobe. Yesss, I could get through these heat and look cute (and a little sweaty).

Do you have any pieces that you've picked up that are getting you through? Mainly, because I'm asking for my closet :)

Summer Style

top // jeans // sandals c/o (run 1/2 big) // purse // hat

This post is sponsored by Banana Republic. All opinions are my own.

It might be a week early, but I think it's safe to say that Summer is here in LA. I know I mentioned June Gloom last week and I think the weather gods heard me say it always happens because this week it's been sunny all day long. The good part about that is finally reaching for all my Summer approved pieces. Just like with any season, it's all about having great staples that go with everything. My latest addition have been these Banana Republic suede sandals. They are the perfect sandal to wear to work to weekend fun. The best part is that they seriously couldn't get any more comfortable. Is it crazy for me to already think that I need a backup pair? I have worn them non-stop since they came in the mail. What are some of your summer go-to pieces so far?

Now, let's flashback to last year's look. I think you can tell from this that there was some of that June Gloom I was talking about. It really does happen hence the jacket and scarf in the picture.

Thank you so much for linking up! Our picks are Jessy from Current Bliss and Oby Grace from Oby Grace!

Dressing Up Neutrals

jacket // tee (so obsessed!) // jeans // cork sandals c/o Donald J Pliner // hat

There's something I love about visiting a new city and dressing up a little more than you normally would. To me, it's the adult version of playing dress up. No one knows you and you can test out outfits you might think twice about. And I've been having fun finding time to do that over the past week while I house sit for my sister. It's a calm little beach town that finds flip flops appropriate for any occasion. So these cork block sandals are far from what the locals wear, but I loved breaking them out. It's being completely okay with standing out. Dressing up and being who you want that day. And that day, I was casual fancy for a day of brewery hopping. Also, pretending I like beer.

Thank you for everyone who links up with us! We enjoy all your posts! Our picks are April from April Was Here and Kristina from The Kontemporary!

Thank you to Donald J Pliner for kindly sponsoring this post. All opinions are 100% honest & completely my own.

Bell-Sleeve Stripes + Linkup

Stripe top (size xxs, on sale) // Jeans // Booties // Jacket // Hat (similar, similar) // Sunnies

It's official. I haven't met a stripe oversized top that doesn't get my heart singing. A few weeks (see here), I tried this bell-sleeve stripe top on. I held back because a) I have enough stripes and b) it was full priced. Those few weeks gave me enough time for the universe to hear me. It went on sale and sits in my closet nicely. Well, except when I pretend I'm a professional bruncher on weekends. It's oversized in the best way. The kind that hides any traces of pancakes and quiches. Anyway, I plan to do as much eating and matcha drinking this weekend for a little trip to San Francisco. Pretty sure this top will be coming, too. Oh, I know everyone is going craazzzy for the Shopbop sale, but Madewell is doing 15% off e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g (hint, hint this top is on extra sale). How cute is this tshirt

Okay, time to flashback to last years look here. It's an outfit that has all the basics you can't go wrong with. Bonus points for being one of those outfits that you know you can look at year after year and not cringe (you know what I mean).

Thank you for linking up with us! So so many cute outfits! Our picks this week are Amy Ann from Straight A Style and Sarah from Trendy and Tidy!
